Fabianism was characterized mainly pragmatism, rejected the utopian ideas. Their socialism was not a revolutionary movement, but for the development and evolution in a socialist direction of the existing institutions. The
Fabianism were in favor of an alternative to ownership of the means of production to end the economic chaos and abuse caused by capitalism. They also wanted the extension of health care and free education for all citizens, as well as a detailed regulation of working conditions to end the scourge of child exploitation and accidents.
The Fabian Society was an essential component in the creation of the Labour Party, founded in 1906, and in 1922 became the second political force in the country, beating the Liberals. The link between the Fabian Society and the Labour Party has been standing during the first half of the twentieth century. In fact, most of the Labour Ministers who have crossed the successive governments were or had been members of the Fabian Society.
