Elections?? Text of speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the Durban Review Conference on Racism, held April 20 in Geneva.
Mr President, Mr Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr High Commissioner for Human Rights United Nations, ladies and gentlemen.
We gathered as a result of the Durban conference against racism and racial discrimination to seek concrete action on behalf of our cause, which is sacred and humanitarian.
Over the last few centuries, humanity has gone through great pain and great suffering. During the Middle Ages, thinkers and scientists have been executed. Innocent people have been taken captive by the millions, separated from their families and their loved ones and deported to Europe and America in the worst living conditions imaginable. Ladies and gentlemen, let's take a moment to review the UN Security Council, which is one of the legacies of the First and Second World War. What is the logic rule a body whose participants have the right to veto cross? A similar logic as it may not conflict with the spiritual or humanitarian? Not inconsistent with the accepted principles of justice, equality before the law, love and human dignity? It does not constitute discrimination, injustice, a violation of human rights, humiliation affects the majority of the countries of nationality and sovereignty?
For the purposes of maintaining peace and international security, the Security Council is the most important decision-making body in the world. How can we expect justice and real peace, when in fact discrimination is legalized and the same legislative bodies are prey to coercion and force, rather than be guided by justice and rights?
Coercion and arrogance are due cause of oppression and war. Although today many advocates of the fact of racism with words and slogans condemning racial discrimination, a small group of powers can still decide for all other nations according to their own interests and at its discretion, and may easily violate all laws and all human values, which is already occurring.
